Some time ago when we started touring we had an idea that we would tour the “Six Nations” over forthcoming years. Realistically we may not get to Italy, so this will be our Italian leg of that idea.
The evening meal on Saturday will be of an Italian theme, both food and dress Everyone, boys and parents, must come with fancy dress for the evening (Andy asked you NOT to wear Scotland shirts- it would be in poor taste!!).. There will be prizes for the best dressed, boys and parents, and other ad-hoc prizes too. There will be significant fines for those not making a real effort. There may also be a karaoke on the Saturday evening.

On Saturday I have booked “Go Ape” for all tourists. We are committed to 1 adult per 2 children and Go Ape will not allow any reduction in these numbers. I’m hoping there will be no shortage of volunteers. This is fully paid for through fund raising.
On return to Scarboroughetti, and of course depending on the weather, there will be a BBQ for lunch, hopefully on the beach. Let’s hope for good weather.
We will also train at some time later in the afternoon, and possibly time for a swim …..this will be dependent on a volunteer mum to brave the waters too !!!!!

On Sunday we have our match against Scarboroughetti RUFC and in the light of recent improved performances, the coaches are looking for a good end to the season.

Kit
All tourists are getting a tracksuit. They should travel to Scarboroughetti on the Friday evening wearing these and again on Sunday morning they should be worn to the rugby club. Every player needs to shower after the game and then enjoy the hospitality of the club.

Please ensure you have at least the following kit
Kit to train in, not match kit
Match kit
Fancy dress for Saturday evening
Swim shorts
Clothes you are willing to get dirty in at Go Ape. Tour Tracksuits are not to be worn.
Waterproofs, for Go Ape and other times. We will train regardless of the weather
Stockport RUFC socks must be worn for our match, so get to the club shop if you don’t have any that fit.

Behaviour
From past experiences everyone has been a pleasure to be with but this must continue. Coaches will not tolerate any poor behaviour. Please remember that due to the size of our tour party we are taking over the whole hotel. Any damage, accidental or otherwise must be paid for. (On the Italian theme, beware mafia-style discipline!)

Coach.
On the Friday evening, please ensure everyone is at the club for 16:45 to load the coach so that we can leave on time. There is to be no food and drink on the coach. We will all get a full meal on arrival at the hotel. Songs WILL be sung by all, in Italian.

Fines
As in previous years, there will be on the spot fines for boys and parents. Fines must be paid immediately, 20p per boy and 50p per adult. The coaches will be fine masters and Anthony will again be our tour Judge (“The Godfather”). Anyone brought before the The Godfather, beware. Fines are usually heavy and indiscriminate. Boys, please make sure you have plenty of fine money with you.

Go Ape
This is a full two and a half hour activity. Groups of 14 will set off at half hourly intervals. Coaches will select those groups. There is no right of appeal.
Everyone will receive a full health/safety/security briefing. If anyone is deemed not to be fully attentive, they will not be allowed to take part. Boys and parents will go around together. Again, if there is anyone behaving in a manner that compromises either the safety of themselves or others, they will be removed from the course. This should be a really enjoyable few hours, so please make it so for everyone.

Hotel Accomodation.
Boys will share with their parent(s). It may be possible that some families may have to share a family room. Again this will be decided by coaches

Aine
This sadly will be the last season that Aine will be with us. She will be tour captain and as such has many privileges, one being an additional fine master and tour washer-upper. This includes fines to parents (Anthony beware), but not coaches of course. Please remember this is not a democracy, it’s a rugby tour.

Money.
You won’t need a lot, just a little for pop and snacks.

Drunkenness
There is to be no alcohol consumed by boys, shandy or otherwise. There is no compromise on this. For adults, the test will be that you can stand up. Anyone not able to stand must stop drinking. (they can continue to sing though).

Curry Night Out for Parents
Last year when we had a similar event it was great fun. Caroline (what a star) Taylor has organised another for Saturday 17 November. We’ll meet in the Governors (Cheadle Hulme) from 7pm. The Barindi (round the corner from the Governors) is booked at 9pm. This is a BYO restaurant. We need to know numbers asap, so please call Caroline on 0161 440 0496 to book your place. It only holds c30 ish people so book early. For those new parents, it really is a good night and a chance to meet others.
Training and Matches
Boys, the weather is now getting colder. Please ensure you come with plenty of warm clothing so you can get the most out of training.
Web-Site
Sadly this week, one of our longer serving players has decided to take a break. Good look to Jacob with his other activities. However, Jurgen (Jacobs dad) has started our web-site and can’t be expected to keep updating it with his son no longer playing . Is there a volunteer amongst our parents to take this on please. It would be a shame if it fell in to disrepute

Well Done
We’d like to thank all the boys for their hard work in the festivals we’ve entered in the last two weeks. This magnificent effort leading to us winning the plate tournament in the recent Manchester Festival. There were some very tough matches and everyone played their part for the whole team effort. Many congratulations to you all.

Training
Whilst very successful in both tournaments we have recognised areas of the game where we still have much to learn. We ask boys that you concentrate and train hard in order to improve our skills in those areas we need it most.
We have now called a break to mid-week training until the new year when we will look to start again as we prepare for our tour and end of season festivals. With this in mind it is particularly important that we make best use of our Sunday training so we can continue to get a clear progression throughout the season. Please ensure you are on time and properly prepared.

Membership
Club subscriptions must be paid before the end of October. Thereafter the subs go up by £10. I am also being put under club pressure for boys not to be allowed to train beyond October, so please help me out and “pay up”.

2007/8 Tour

We have had many new boys this season and it is a pleasure to have you all with us. For the last two seasons we have organised an end-of-season tour for the boys, and parents too.
Touring is a strong tradition within rugby clubs and Stockport in particular. We have had two great tours so far and look forward to our Yorkshire sortee this season.
I would strongly encourage all boys to come on tour with us.
At this stage, we the coaches, still insist that all boys bring a parent on tour with them. Mums don’t be afraid if you’re the only one available, we had plenty of mums on tour last year.
Caroline and Rachel are progressing all plans. We do though need to collect £10 per person asap to help us pay hotel deposits in sunny Scarborough.
Please complete the tear-off slip at the bottom of this newsletter to indicate your acceptance of the tour and state clearly who is coming and please include that deposit with the reply. This needs to be with us by 28 October please.
Many thanks for your understanding and prompt payment.

We are progressing some fundraising activities to help pay for additional tour activities for the boys. One such event has already been organised. This is a girlie night out for the mums. Caroline and Rachel have some advertising for this.
Other events we are looking at include a Race night and a bag pack for the team at a local supermarket. Watch this space for more details.

Sponsorship
We have again had an offer of sponsorship for the tour and when we have decided how best to use that we’ll let everyone know.

Night Out
Last season we had a very entertaining night out at a BYO Indian Restaurant in Cheadle Hulme. Can I have a volunteer please to organise a similar event in the next month before we embark on Christmas activities.

2 September 2007

Hotline 07974 759871

Welcome back everyone, I hope you’ve all had a good summer and hope all the boys have been playing some sport to keep yourselves fit. Welcome also to any new boys who have joined the squad for their first season at SRUFC. Sadly also we have lost a couple of boys who have stayed with their football clubs, good luck to Jed and Adam.

Training during September will run from 10:30 until 12:30. Please ensure you are on-time. Boys, if you are not available please let one of the coaches know.

Membership and RFU Registration.
Please complete your annual membership forms and return to Terry with your cheques by the end of September to get your discounts. Sorry but there is no leaway this season on the end of September date should it be left in a childs’ kit bag for instance. Please help the club by paying promptly.
We also need to progress ensuring that all boys are RFU registered. There is no cost involved in this. I will provide forms to those boys whose registration cards I do not have. It is possible some of you have completed a form previously, many apologies but some were destroyed in a very wet kit bag of mine.

Web-Site
Here’s the link to our new site
http://www.u12rugby.site-online.co.uk/ & http://www.srufcminis.com/02Homepage
This site is now also to be linked to from the main SRUFC we site. From now on my newsletters will be posted on here to save me printing out lots of copies and I know some are not read….shame on you !!!. If you’d like to have something posted on the site then please contact one of the coaches or Jurgen….appropriate rugby material only !!! Thanks again to Jurgen for keeping this up-2-date.

Touchline Coaching
Rugby is a game of physical strength but also requires great mental agility and quick thinking as well. With these last couple of points in mind the coaches are asking parents not to coach from the touchline. The boys need to occasionally work out for themselves what to do.
This will allow us to see which boys need more coaching on certain key skills and where as a team we need to practice through drills and game situations other things.. Maybe there is a budding songwriter who can write a couple of Stockport chants to “up the ante” on match days.
Thank you in anticipation.

Coaches Roles
The coaches have decided to specialise a little this season so the boys know which of us is more responsible for certain aspects of the game. So…
Andy will be our Forwards coach
Keith will be our backs and Lead coach
Terry will be our fitness coach and Individual skills coach.

It would also be nice to make greater use of parents skills. If you’ve played in the past and can offer help on a regular or part-time basis please offer. Eg Steve Driscoll has offered to referee occasionally to allow the coaches more time to focus on the team.

School Rugby
Many boys will be playing rugby at school this season and with slight rule variations. If you are picked at school for a different position than you play with us then please let us know so we can try and work something out.

Mid-week training
This will continue to be on a Wednesday at the astro at Hazel Grove. Please bring a drink and a £1 to cover the cost of the court hire. Any surplus funds have been used to buy the fitness ladders and hurdles that have appeared for the training we’ve done this summer. Well done to everyone who managed to come to some of those sessions.

2007/8 Tour
We have two new volunteers to help organise this seasons tour, Rachel and Caroline. Here’s looking forward to another great tour.
Prices will be put together soon along with our venue selection. I think the plan will be to start collecting small sums on a regular basis so we have sufficient funds for deposits, so please pay promptly when asked.

Other things planned this season
We have a few ideas of other things we’d like to organise this season.
Paintballing again….my bruises from last time have just about faded.
A home Saturday fixture against a visiting team. We’d play before the first team, video the match and watch it on the screen whilst having a little food.
Parents night out. Hopefully someone will volunteer to organise another curry night or similar.
A fixture against Sean’s cousins team from Mansfield.

Parent Help
The u12’s are very fortunate with fantastic support for the boys and coaches too. However we would always welcome more formal help, another coach, more admin help, especially on match days. Please offer.
Likewise the club is always in need of help, on committees, festival organisation and many other things. If you’ve got any amount of time to spare please let someone know.

Sponsorship
Many thanks again to Steve for his generosity last season.
Boys……please wear those tops for training and especially for warming up on match days. To any newcomers, I may be able to get additional tops although there will be a charge.
Again, should anyone else fancy sponsoring the team in any way please let us know.

Health and Safety
Will all boys please ensure that they wear a gumshield for all training sessions and fixtures. The RFU have stated again that these are mandatory. Refs and coaches would be right to ask players to leave the field if they are not wearing one. Thank you.
Whilst not a problem at the moment, it is important the boys are warm during the winter months so that they can get the most out of training sessions. Please wear too much clothing and remove some if you are too warm, it’s better than being cold.
